Free Download Manager

Jack was downloading a game on his PC. He thought in the mean time he could surf the internet. He found an interesting photo editing software. Clicking the download he was confused on the status of his earlier download. He was also downloading a torrent in another software. Now he became frustrated managing these download going back and forth different applications. He got mad and kicked his PC. Now he is in the hospital with a broken leg!

Do you want to avoid Jack like situations? Then I have the right software for you; and that too for absolutely free! Here I present you the Free Download Manager. One of the best download managers out on the internet.

It is definitely the best free alternative to the premium Internet Download Manager. It is somewhat better than the IDM actually. Some of its features are

  • Direct downloading.
  • P2P downloading such as torrents.
  • Video downloading.
  • Its beautiful yet simple design.
It has a beautiful simple UI. Add, delete, pause and open buttons are at the top. Then there is the downloads table mentioning the thumbnail, name, speed, status, size and date added. Multi select check boxes are available. That means you can pause, delete or start many downloads at once. On selecting a download, details comes up below the downloads table. A special feature called the snail mode is available in this download. Whenever you want to free some bandwidth from the downloading files, click on this tiny button on the left bottom. It will free up maximum bandwidth for you without interrupting your downloads.

It is an excellent torrent downloader. One can simply replace their current bittorrent client with it. It can catch torrent magnets. It automatically redirects you to torrent details if you a download a .torrent file with it. Then you can download your files with it, like any other torrent client.

Downloading videos with it is a piece of cake. You can either copy and paste the video URL to its add button or right click on the video link and select download with FDM. Quality selector is also available. Download speeds are great and is accelerated.

An Overlook of Settings

The settings are very basic. Startup configurations, torrent association, download location and update settings are under general. Browser integration with Chrome, Firefox, IE and Edge is very simple and works perfectly. Network setting includes proxies and bittorrent settings. Bandwidth can be customized. Advanced features like download memory pre-allocation, download history and power management are quite useful.

With all these features, it definitely is the best free download manager.
